Baking with natural, high quality, sensational flavors has been my passion for years and I am thrilled to share my creations in my new home of Dallas, Texas!

 

My love of pastry started in 2003, when I got my first job at a local coffee shop in Mukilteo, WA and became addicted to the artisanal pastries they served. I started creating my own baked goods from home and found that I was as passionate about baking as I was about the pastries themselves. I moved to Chicago in early 2009 and decided to pursue this passion further by turning it into a full time career. 

I attended The French Pastry School of Chicago where I not only broadened my knowledge of pastry but also discovered the beautifully intricate art of Gateau- French cake. Unlike traditional American cake that usually consists of sponge-like cake, inner filling, and outer frosting, French cakes are multi-layered confections that have several different components, all blending together to create an explosion of flavor. This concept blew my mind and inspired me to start creating cakes with a profound flavor profile in mind first and foremost. 

 

After graduating I refined my skills, developed my own recipes, and eventually started my own cake-ry business, Akin Cake. During those sweet years of owning my own small business I was honored to create everything from wedding, to birthday, to book club, to just-for-fun cakes and my heart and soul went into each and every layer. My favorite compliment was hearing “I don’t like cake, but I love your cakes.”

 

After years of working out of a shared user kitchen, pulling several all nighters, and welcoming our second little one, it became clear that I needed to take my career in a different direction that was conducive to the early years of parenting. While closing up shop was a heartbreaking decision to make, it lead to developing new skills such as website design, business management, and photography.

In 2022 my family and I moved to Texas and saw our dream home (and my dream kitchen!) come to life in Richardson. Now I get to see my newfound skills be utilized alongside my old passion for baking and manifest themselves into this work of love- Charin’s Creations! I am excited to introduce you all (or y'all ;) ) to my delightfully whimsical and downright delicious baked goods!
